Why TimArcher.com Got Created

Well, it’s been about one month now since I started this blog, and so far all I’ve done are tech posts. However, since I have never really introduced myself or described why this blog was created, I will use today’s post to do just that.

It all started back in January of 2006. I saw the domain timarcher.com become available and since my name is in fact Tim Archer, I thought it would be a good idea to register the domain. Then it sat idle for over a year as I was in the middle of my MBA program and had no time to do anything with it. Besides, I had no idea what I should even do with the domain anyway.

Then, on my drive home from work on March 20, 2007 the idea hit me of what I should do with timarcher.com. I’ll setup a blog! Let me explain why this crazy idea popped in my head. Earlier in the month a co-worker described to me how he wanted to setup Drupal to experiment with it as a CMS system. However, I was totally ignorant about what Drupal could do and I didn’t totally understand how it would solve our needs. So that night at home, in a time span of about 3 hours, I had installed Drupal and gave most of its built-in options and capabilities a quick tour. I had also looked at the various modules and saw that Drupal does indeed have a lot of potential. Since I used my domain as the hostname to setup Drupal with, TimArcher.com was born!

By now it was about 9 o’clock, and I was feeling pretty good about my Drupal knowledge. However, I now had this TimArcher.com site hanging out on the Internet that had no content. What could I write about? I stewed on that for a little while, and then decided to give up on it for the night.

The next day, on the drive home from work (I drive an hour each way and get a lot of thinking done), I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out what I can write. I definitely wanted to write about a topic that I actually enjoy and know something about, which narrowed it down to computers/technology and finance.

Well, needless to say, that night on Mach 21, 2007 I wrote my first welcome post to the world, and then began working on my first tech post. The next day I posted a basic post showing how to select from the SCT Banner AR Tables.

I really hope you enjoy the content and find it useful in some way. Soon I’ll be mixing in some thoughts and opinions about my other favorite topic: personal finance. There is a finite limit to my technical knowledge and I’m afraid that I’ll hit it rather quickly.

Thanks for visiting,
Tim Archer

Worst Domain Name Ever

What, I had no influence in convincing you to start blogging for fun and most importantly profit?

I think the real story goes like this...

Once upon a time, my brilliant friend Mike was making a killing with his crappy poker blog, and I thought why can't I do something similar? I want to get paid. Then he told me how anyone can make money blogging if they just find a niche and write about. Lo and behold... TimArcher.com the tech blog is born. Now all I have to do is find a way to incorporate some 800lb gorillas into my posts and I'll be a gazillionaire.

And they all lived happily ever after. The End.

Keep it coming...

Keep your stuff coming Tim...I find it informative and interesting...and a good excuse to have another cup of coffee and a doughnut !!
